World of Tanks Review

World of Tanks has been around for some time now, originally being launched in October 2010. It is however a work in progress with new tanks and maps being introduced on a regular basis. What is unusual about the game is the fact that it is available in a free format. The client can be downloaded for free, although you will need a fast connection as the current version is a little over 2.2GB in size.

There are basically 3 sizes of tanks, small, medium and large together with tank destroyers and self propelled artillery. The game takes place in a series of battles each of which features 2 teams with players on each. The battlefields range from open countryside to town centres and can be won either by one team destroying all the other teams vehicles or by one team occupying the other teams base.

Players get experience points and credits for each battle they take part in, credits are spent repairing your vehicle, upgrading your vehicle, training your crew and purchasing ammunition. It is possible to research upgrades to your vehicle using experience points and this enables you to get better suspension, stronger engines and more accurate guns.

The game encourages teamwork, players with small tanks can work together and use their speed and agility to take on medium and even large tanks. The two teams are automatically selected to give a balanced battle. There are currently over 18 million players worldwide and currently holds the Guinness World Record for having the largest number of players connected to a single server.
Our Teen Reviewers Say -

Pros
It features tanks, big vehicles that can run things over and crash through buildings. You can play online against millions of other people, meaning no two games will ever be the same. The game has excellent graphics and the vehicle modelling is extremely detailed. It is good that there is a free option allowing players to work their way up from the smallest tank step by step. There is no blood and gore and the game is rated for 7 and up.
Cons
You need a reasonably powerful PC to run the software, one with a separate graphics card. There are some cheats out there.
We rate it 9 out of 10
